Picnic (1955)

In a small Kansas town a drifter (William Holden) blows into town to visit an old fraternity buddy (Cliff Robertson) who also happens to be the son of the richest man in town (Raymond Bailey). An egocentric braggart with all potential and no accomplishment, he meets up with the town beauty queen, his buddy's girlfriend, (Kim Novak) at the town's annual Labor Day picnic.

An insurance salesman meets the seductive wife of one of his clients and soon begins an affair with her. When the woman proposes to kill her husband to receive the prize of an accident insurance policy, her lover plots a scheme to receive twice the amount based on a double indemnity clause.

The Shootist (1976)

John Wayne's final film appearance, also starring Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard, Harry Morgan, James Stewart, Sheree North, Hugh O'Brien, Richard Boone, John Carradine, and Scatman Crothers.

A gunfighter (John Wayne) is told by his doctor (James Stewart) he has cancer and has only two months to live. He takes a room at a boarding house run by a widow (Lauren Bacall) with a young son (Ron Howard). There he prepares to wait until death comes. Of course, his very presence starts off events in the town. The Marshal (Harry Morgan) comes, prepared to die in a shootout, the boy tries to idolize him, the woman first is disgusted and then pities him. Realizing that he will die in great pain, he comes up with an idea to go out with a bang.



A Patch of Blue (1965)

An aging recluse (Bette Davis) deluded into a state of dementia by horrible memories and hallucinations, lives in a secluded house where, 37 years before, her married lover (Bruce Dern), was beheaded and mutilated by an unknown assailant.
