The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)




Starring William Holden, Alec Guinness, Jack Hawkins, and Sessue Hayakawa. Directed by David Lean. British prisoners of war during World War II are ordered to build a bridge to accommodate the Burma-Siam Railway. Their insinct is to sabotage the bridge but their colonel persuades them that the bridge should be constructed as a symbol of British morale.

The Bridge on the River Kwai won 7 Academy Awards in 1957 including Best Picture. Alec Guinness won for Best Actor and David Lean won for Best Director.
